Food Allergy and Food Intolerances

Food allergy and food intolerances are becoming more broadly recognized among other nutritional and conventional medical practitioners. During this 2 weeks do not eat grains, fruits, dairy, starchy vegetables or drink alcohol. This will help your immune system to calm down, it will allow your gut to heal and you will also lose a little weight.

After the initial 2 weeks of food elimination you should follow what is known as a Palaeolithic diet for a further 2 to 4 weeks. This will further allow your immune system and gut to heal and still excludes many common food intolerances. This part of the elimination diet includes:

• All the meat, fish, seafood and poultry you can eat
• Unlimited vegetables
• All fruits
• All nuts
• Olive oil, coconut oil, coconut milk, herbs and spices.
• No grains, dairy or legumes
• If you suffer from or have a family history of autoimmune disease then no eggs, nuts and seeds, tomatoes, potatoes, aubergine or peppers.

You can also eat ginger, garlic, cinnamon, coriander, cumin, turmeric, basil, thyme, oregano, black pepper, sage, cardamom, as well as lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, horseradish and pickles to add flavor and variety to your food . When I was first diagnosed with an allergy there were a ton of questions that cam to mind. An “allergy” was first described at the beginning of the 20th century by a pediatrician named Clemens von Pirquet. The term mean “changed activity” and described changes that occurred after contacting a foreign substance. Two types of change were noticed. The first was beneficial. The benefit occurred from the development of protection against a foreign substance after being exposed to it. This response advances us from developing many infectious diseases for a second time and provides the scientific basis for most immunizations. The other type of response that is not seen as beneficial is known as a hypersensitivity response, and it is the response for which the term “allergy” is most commonly used today.

Allergies are now known to be possible even without previous exposure to a substance. Everyone is capable of having an allergic response. A basic example; everyone would have an allergic response if they were given the wrong blood type during a blood transfusion.

I believe the term “allergy” is over used. Or maybe we have isolated certain particulars, like pet dander, grasses, maybe a certain type of clothing material. Well, we can avoid some things on our own. But at the end of the day, we must go out to work, shop, play, and generally live.

I have been taking a specific medication for about 10 years now. Although it has been predominately successful, I still have had several trips to the emergency room with massive hives, dangerously low blood pressure, false spells, and the occasional bout with breathing difficulties. If you've experienced this, you know the feeling. If you have not, trust me when I tell you, it's not something you want to go through.

Summer, of course, and during the Santa Ana winds of Fall where I live, and sometimes we would get an Indian Summer, a really hot period in the middle of Winter. Either way, I would be outside & very hot. I would begin to sweat, my shirt would get soaked, and then within 1/2 an hour, I'd start with an outbreak of rash & hives the likes of which I had never seen in all my day. Within the next hour I'd be passed out and waiting for an ambulance to take me off to the emergency room.

Well, about 6 months ago I was introduced to a new Green Technology for my home, it's called 'Laundry Pure'. It was explained to me that if I connected this device to my washing machine, I would no longer have to use detergent to get my clothes clean. A bold statement, to say the least. I had been using detergent to clean my clothes for over 50 years, and I learned that from my parents, who used it all of their lives, and they learned it from their parents … get the picture. I've also experienced the most unexpected side benefit. Since I do not use detergent anymore, I do not have to buy detergent anymore. I also quit using, and buying, fabric softener. And, after installing the unit, I discovered that I do not have to use hot water anymore either. The savings have been awesome! The unit will pay for itself in the first 9 months. So I'm not only getting healthy, I'm saving money, I'm reducing my “carbon foot print”, and I'm doing my part to help clean the environment, all at the same time.
